3 female workers among 4 die in crash

Four ceramic factory workers, including three female ones, were killed after the bus carrying them to work fell into a roadside ditch in Dhamrai area of Savar on Tuesday. Another 25 workers were badly injured in the accident near Dhautia Bus Stand on Dhaka-Aricha Highway at 6:00am, Dhamrai Police OC Firoz Akhtar said. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Kalampur and Savar, he said. Doctors say the death toll could rise. The dead are Raushan Ara, 22, Archana Rani, 35, Shahnaz Begum, 26, and Rahim, 30, all workers of Protick Ceramic Factory. Police and locals said a bus carrying them was on its way to of Protik Ceramics factory at Dhautia from Dhamrai’s Islampur. The driver of the speeding bus lost control and fell into a ditch, almost ten feet deep, after it made way for another bus to cross it, said the OC quoting witnesses. On information, police rushed in and recovered the bodies. Later, the bodies were sent to a local hospital for autopsy. However, the family members took away the body of Rahim for burial without post-mortem, police and hospital sources said, according to agencies.
