3 get death sentence for killing minor

A Narayanganj court on Monday sentenced three people to death and two others to life term imprisonment for killing a minor in 2011. The condemned convicts are Wasim, Sadek and Salam. They were tried in absentia. The lifers are Swapan and Lucky Akter. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each. According to the prosecution, Mohammad Shamsul Haque Zahid, the four-and-half-year-old son of Akter Hossain of Dharmaganj Beparipara of Fatullah, was abducted by the convicts on June 26, 2011, and they killed him. Police recovered Zahid’s body from Shitalakkha River the next day. A case was filed and after examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Malik Abdullah Al Amin gave the verdict acquitting another accused as his guilt could not be proved, according to a news agency.
