3 get life for murder

A court in Netrakona has convicted three people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a man at Alampur village in Durgapur Upazila of Netrakona district on January 12 1998. The convicts were also fined Tk 50,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer more 5 years RI. The lifers are Saheb Ali, son of Late Jasmat Ali of Ramnagar Baluchar village and Jalal, son of Pirbox of Fulpur village in Durgapur Upazila, and Hachu, son of late Akkas Ali of Anandapur village in Kalmakanda Upazila. Among the convicts, Saheb Ali and Hachu were tried in absentia. The court acquitted three other accused as allegations against them were not proved. According to prosecution, Amjad Hossain went missing on January 12, 1998. The next day, locals found his body lying in Baluchar area in Sumeshwari River. Kamal Husain, son of Amzad Husain, filed a case with Durgapur police station on January 13 accusing six people. The charge-sheet was filed on October 16, 1998, against them. Additional district and sessions Judge Md Abdul Hamid pronounced the verdict on Thursday, according to UNB.
