3 get life for murder in Netrakona

A court in Netrakona on Thursday sentenced three people to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing a man in 2005. The lifers are Jahangir, Sagar Mia and Shahid Mia, all hailing from Anantapur village of Netrakona Sadar upazila. The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer five years more RI. According to the prosecution, Swopon Mia, was chopped to death following a dispute over ownership of land in Anantapur village on October 27, 2005. The victim’s father filed a case with Sadar police station on October 29, 2005 accusing nine people. After examining the records and witnesses, Additional Sessions’ Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the verdict acquitting six others, according to UNB.
