3 get life in Rajshahi attempted murder case

A court here on Monday sentenced a woman and her two accomplices to life imprisonment for attempting to kill her husband. The convicts are Bina Begum, 26, her paramour Omar Faruk, 30, a liftman of Rajshahi Medical College, and Palan Ghosh, 25, of Hargram Natun Para. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Lalon Uddin of Sayergachha area under Rajpara Police Station of the city, sustained burn injuries as his wife Bina with the help of Faruk and Palan hurled acid at him in an attempt to kill him while he was sleeping at his house on July 4, 2009. Later, he was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Lalon filed a case against the trio on December 14, 2010. After examining the records and witnesses, Additional Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge Mohammad Shahidullah handed down the verdict, according to a news agency.
