3 get life term for violating housewife

A tribunal in Sylhet on Thursday convicted three people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for violating a housewife in 2010. The lifers were identified as Jahur Ali,48, son of late Maulana Abdul Jalil of Rapasha village in Kamalganj, Koisar Miah,32, son of Mir Ali of Baliarbagh village and Sadek Miah,30, son of late Soleman Miah of Sompashi village of Sadar upazila. Among them, Sadek Miah was tried in absentia. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, a housewife was gang-raped by the convicts at Premnagar tea garden in Moulvibazar district when she went to Civil Surgeon office by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on February 22, 2010. Victim filed a case against four people with Sadar Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Later, Detective Branch of police arrested the four. Abu Zafar, sub-inspector of Sadar Model Police Station, submitted a charge sheet against them on January 31, 2012. After examining the records and witnesses, Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Makbul Ahsan handed down the verdict acquitting another accused Faijul Islam as the allegation brought against him could not be proved, according to a news agency.
