Three people, including a Bengali settler, were gunned down and 10 others injured in separate attacks by armed miscreants in Khagrachhari and Bandarban districts on Saturday. In Bandarban, a man was shot dead and 10 other people received bullet injuries in a house at Kagojikhola village in Naikkhangchhari upazila where marriage ceremony of his younger brother was being held early Saturday. The dead is Ahmmed Safa, 60, elder brother of Advocate Ibrahim, the bridegroom. Police said a gang of 22/23 armed miscreants stormed the house of Nurul Amin, where the marriage ceremony was being held at about 12:30 am. When local people tried to resist the miscreants, a scuffle took place between them. At one stage, the criminals opened fire on the inmates of the house and their neighbours, leaving Ahmmed Shafa dead on the spot. Ten other people were injured in the armed attack by the unknown criminals. The injured were rushed to a local hospital. In Khagrachhari, two indigenous people were gunned down by unidentified assailants in Sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The deceased were identified by the locals as Notun Kumar Chakma, 48, of Panchhari upazila of the district and Protulmoy Chakma, 30, of neighbouring Rangamati district. Sources at the local police station said the victims were the members of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), an organisation opposing Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord signed in 1996. Pro-CHT peace accord group might have carried out the attack, they added, according to a news agency.
