3 hurt as perfume godown catches fire

A perfume godown caught fire in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Wednesday, leaving three employees injured. Those suffered burn injuries are Mofiz, 40, Aziz, 30, and Kabir, 32. They were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where their condition was stated to be critical. Sources at the Fire Service control room said the fire originated at the warehouse on the 3rd floor of a six-storey building near AC Mosque at Hakim Habibur Rahman Road under Chawkbazar Police station at about 6:15 pm. On information, six firefighting units rushed in and doused the flame at about 7pm. Contacted, deputy director Halim of Fire Service and Civil Defence said the fire erupted inside a small room used as the godwon of perfume. The fire originated from a burning cigarette while the employees were refilling perfume inside small containers, the DMCH sources said quoting Mofiz, according to a news agency.
