3 injured in transformer blast

Three employees of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) suffered critical burn injuries on Thursday morning in an electric transformer explosion at Mirpur in the city. The injured – Rakibul Hasan, 26, an electrician of DESCO, his helpers Jony, 18, and Sazzad Hossain, 18, – are now undergoing treatment at Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. All of a sudden, the transformer exploded and caught fire around 9:30am while they were working on an electric pillar adjoining a water-tank at Mirpur-1 under Shah Ali Police Station, locals said. Rakibul sustained 76 per cent burn injuries while Jony 26 per cent and Sazzad 22 per cent, hospital sources said adding that the health condition of the trio is stated to be critical. DESCO Engineer Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the incident saying the injured are their employees, according to BSS.
