3 killed in road crashes in Dhaka in 12 hrs

Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka’s Asad Gate, Shanir Akhra and Shahbagh areas in the last 11 hours ending at 8:00am on Sunday. Two of the victims were identified as Hazi Ramzan Ali, 75, a resident of Lalbagh and Rafiqul Islam, 50, a security guard of Peerganj upazila of Rangpur district. Identity of the other man, aged around 45, could not be known. Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said a ‘Shikar Paribahan’ bus hit Hazi Ramzan Ali when he was crossing road at Shahbagh Intersection, leaving him dead on the spot around 8:00am on Sunday. In another incident, security guard Rafiqul Islam received fatal injuries when a vehicle of ‘Leguna Paribahan’ knocked him down near ‘Aarong’ of Asad Gate around 9:30pm on Saturday. He was rescued and rushed to the DMCH where he succumbed to his injuries at about 10:30pm. Meanwhile, an unidentified man, aged 45, was crossing the road near Rony Petrol Pump in Shanir Akhra around 12:30am on Sunday. A covered van hit him and fled from the scene. Locals rescued and rushed him to the DMCH where the duty doctor declared him dead around 1.29am, according to a news agency.
