3 madrasah teachers get 2 yrs in Satkhira

A mobile court in Satkhira has sentenced three madrasa teachers to two years’ imprisonment on charge of planning subversive acts at Kaliganj upazila. The convicts were identified as Abdul Jabbar, 58, son of Moniruddin Gazi of Bandakati village, Abdus Sattar, 59, son of Sanaullah Bishwas of Baliadanga village, and Abdus Samad, 57, son of Shahor Ali of Chanchai village at Kaliganj. They are teachers of Mukundapur Choumuhani Darul Ulum Senior Fazil Madrasa. Officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station Golam Rahman said police conducted a drive at Mukundapur Choumuhani and picked up the three teachers who are also the activists of the local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. The three were produced before the mobile court, led by Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Syed Faruqe Ahmed, who handed down the punishment on Friday afternoon. Later, they were sent to jail, according to a news agency.
