3 new MPs take oath

Three more Members of Parliament (MPs) elected in the 10th national election were sworn in on Monday. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to the new MPs at a simple ceremony at the Speaker’s office of Jatiya Sangsad. The three four MPs are Md Abul Kalam Azad (Gaibandha-4), Muhammad Altaf Ali (Bogra-7) and Swapan Bhattacharya (Jessore-5), said a PID handout. They were elected after the re-voting in 390 polling stations of seven constituencies on Thursday. Deputy speaker Shawkat Ali, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury MP and Saber Hossain Chowdhury were present. With the election results of the seven constituencies, the AL seats in 10th national parliament rose to 236 while that of Jatiya Party to 34 and independent MPs to 15, according to a news agency.
