3 of a family lynched at Muradnagar in Cumilla

CUMILLA, July 3 (BSS): Three members of a family were lynched in a village under Muradnagar upazila of the district on allegation of their involvement in drug trading.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangara Thana under Muradnagar upazila said that the incident took place at Koroibari village under Akbarpur union of the upazila at about 9.30am.
The deceased were identified as Rubi Akhter, 58, her daughter Jonaki, 25 and and son Russell, 35.
The OC quoting local people said the residents of the village gathered at the house of Rubi Akhter at about 9.30am and beat up four people including Rubi Akhter, Jonaki and Russell alleging that they were involved in drug trading in the area. As a result, Rubi Akhter and her son and daughter died on the spot. Local people rescued the other person and sent him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The whole family of Rubi Akhter was involved in drug trading in the area for a long time and the residents of the area were angry with them, the OC added.
On hearing the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Cumilla Nazir Ahmed and officials of other agencies visited the spot, said the OC.
Md Shah Alam, former chairman of Akbarpur union said that the family members of Rubi Ahkter were involved in drug trading in the area for a long time.
Legal actions would be taken in this connection.
