3 robbers hurt in Satkhira gunfight

SATKHIRA, May 19 (UNB): At least three alleged robbers were injured in a 'gunfight' with police at Chhoyghoria under Sadar Upazila Monday.
The injured were identified as Polash Rahman (35), son of Sheikh Afazuddin under Patkelghata thana in Satkhira, Alamgir Hossain (36) of Dhulihar village in Sadar Upazila of the district and Matiur Rahman (38), son of Motaleb Hossain of Mirsisi village in Dumuria Upazila of Khulna district.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar thana Enamul Haque said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was trying to commit robbery in a bus, a team of police launched a drive to arrest them.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left three robbers -Polash, Alamgir and Matiur - injured in their legs.
The three injured robbers were taking treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital under police custody.
However, Polash and Alamgir alleged that a team of plainclothes police picked up them five days back and police opened fired targeting them after tying their eyes with ribbons in Chhoyghoria area Monday.
