FE Report
Law enforcement agencies will step up security steps at cattle markets, tannery factories and various terminals in the capital as part of their countrywide three-tier security arrangement to ensure peaceful celebration of Eid-ul Azha.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker Thursday made the disclosure at a press briefing at the Police Headquarters saying that thousands of law enforcers will start implementing the security measures from November 11.
"A three-tier of security measures have already been taken to ensure peaceful observance of the festival--before the Eid day, on the Eid day and the day after the Eid," the IGP said, adding that special deployment would be ensured during the Eid holidays to check thefts, dacoities and burglaries as a large number of residents leave their houses during the time.
He said special police camps will be set up at all the cattle markets to ensure cent per cent safety and security for traders and buyers of the sacrificial animals as well as gear up vigilance at all the buss, launch and railway stations for hassle-free journey of the homebound passengers.
"We've instructed highway and traffic policemen to take special initiatives so that the cattle-carrying vehicles can enter the capital without facing any troubles," Mr Khandaker said.
About the security of tannery factories after the Eid, the police boss said significant number of police force will be engaged to prevent any attempts to send hides of the slaughtered animals outside the capital.
"We'll not tolerate any violence over its (hide) trading. Our main aim will be to ensure tannery-oriented trade of cattle hides," he said.
Responding to a question, he said they will increase deployment of the law enforcers at the country's key apparel industrial hubs to maintain order as the sector had witnessed a number of violent unrests in the past over festival bonuses on the occasion of Eid.
"Our intelligence officials are collecting information over any possible violence. We'll make the total deployment after receiving their reports. Last year 40,000 law enforcers were deployed during the Eid" the IGP said.
Additional police forces, including elite force, detectives and special branch, will be posted at all major markets, shopping complexes and malls as large number of customers will gather here ahead of the second biggest religious festival of Muslims.
The security blanket, he said, will also cover all Eidgahs, including the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and National Eidgah in Supreme Court premise.
