3 to die for Rubel murder

A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced three persons to death for killing ‘Rubel’, a mechanic, in Old Dhaka in 2010. Judge Md Rezaul Islam of Dhaka’s fifth Special Court pronounced the verdict in the presence of the convicts – Md Rubel, 21, a resident of Companyganj of Bhandaria Upazila of Barisal, Md Ronny Biswas, 20, a resident of Sutrapur area of Dhaka and Md Rumman, 20, of Mymensingh district and a resident of Matuwail area of Jatrabari, Dhaka, – in the afternoon. The convicts dissected Rubel’s head from his body after slaughtering him in the ground floor of Hotel Shah Kamal in old part of Dhaka city on June 6, 2010. Later Rumman took Rubel’s head to the manager of Hotel Mim and demanded Tk 200,000. They threatened to frame him for the murder if he did not pay up. The hotel manager told Rumman to wait and informed the police. Rumman was arrested with the head dissected from Rubel’s body. Following his statement, police arrested the two other killers who eventually confessed to the crime. Rubel’s beheaded body was recovered from Hotel Shah Kamal’s ground floor. Victim’s elder brother Maran Mia filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station and the charge-sheets were submitted in the court against the three people on Dec 29, 2010. The court indicted them on Sept 21, 2011, according to a news agency.
