3 to walk gallows for murder in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, July 17 (UNB): A court here on Thursday sentenced three people to death and six others to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Fakirhat upazila of the district in 2003.
The condemned convicts are Tapan Mandal, son of Nepal Mandal, Zihad Sheikh, son of Sultan Sheikh and Atunu Mandal, son of Sushant Mandal.  All hail from Noldha village of the upazila.
The lifers are-Abdur Rauf, son of Afsar Sheikh, Trinath Hira, son of Adhir Hira, Naresh Dhali, son of Kumod Dhali, Shib Shankar Hira, son of Mahananda Hira, Krishna Bala, son of Rajat Bala and Bahauddin Gazi, son of Moslem Gazi.
The court also fined lifers Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more RI.
According to the prosecution, Rustom Ali had a longstanding enmity with the convicts over a shrimp enclosure in the area.
As sequel of the conflict, Rustom Ali was shot dead at his home on February 27, 2003.
Victim's brother, Joynal Matbar filed a case with Fakirhat Police Station the next day accusing 10 people. Police submitted chargesheet against them on February 28, 2004.
