CHITTAGONG, Nov 3: Trade body leaders are concerned at the growing incidents of killing traders in the port city. They have demanded stronger security net in the city and upazila headquarters of the district during the five-day Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
In a statement president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Morshed Murad Ibrahim on behalf of the CCCI directors has expressed deep concern on murder of three businessmen in the last two days.
Two traders were killed on Wednesday in the city and at Boalkhali Upazila of the district just outside the city. Banknote trader Mujibul Huq (54) was strangulated to death in a hotel room while the dead body of Md Yusuf, a shop owner from Patiya, was found at Amtol area of Boalkhali. On October 30, an expatriate, Nurul Islam, was stabbed to death by miscreants in Boalkhali Upazila.
Murad Ibrahim said high transactions will take place in the cattle market and the post-Eid tannery business. Besides, transactions have increased in the commercial and business houses for which the law enforcement authorities have taken five layer security measures.
But it is not enough to ensure the overall security system. He urged the law enforcers to make more efforts for security and safety of the people and businesses.
The CCCI chief said during the five day holiday all offices, industries and business houses will remain closed when the law and order may turn worse.
The police authorities need to deploy more forces for thousands of homebound people who are leaving the port city to enjoy the holy Eid-ul-Azha, he added.
