30 gold bars seized at Shahjalal airport: 1 arrested

Customs officials on Friday arrested a young man with 30 gold bars weighing about 3.5 kg from the Canopy-2 of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport in Dhaka. "Customs Intelligence officials and members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) also arrested Rafiqul Islam, 45, a passenger of a foreign airlines, in this connection. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tanjila Akhter of ABPn said each of the seized gold bars weighs 10 tolas. She said Rafiqul Islam landed in Dhaka at 3pm by the Flight SBH-06 of Saudi Airlines with the 30 gold bars. "The gold was seized after searching his body," the customs official added. Police said a case was filed with Bimanbandar Police Station under Special Powers Act to this end, according to BSS.
