30 hurt in AL factional clash

At least 30 people were injured, including three with bullets, in a clash between supporters of two chairman candidates belonging to ruling Awami League (AL) in Bhedarganj upazila of Shariatpur on Thursday over their defeat in Wednesday’s polls. The injured include Zasim Bepari, Monir Hossain Mollah, police constables Rezaul, Ashan Habib and Shaidullah Shikdar. All of them were admitted to Bhedarganj Upazila Health Complex and a local hospital. Locals said men of ruling party-supported candidate Altaf Hossain and AL rebel contestant Habibur Rahman, equipped with locally made weapons, locked in the clash over the defeat of their leaders in upazila polls. On information, police rushed to the spot and fired 56 rounds of rubber bullets and lobbed 10 round teargas shells to bring the situation under control, according to a news agency.
