Saturday, 28 March 2009

Dozens of Islamist activists were injured and 10 arrested following a clash between police and Hijbut Tahrir outside the north gate of Baitul Mukarram national mosque after Jum'a prayer Friday, reports UNB.
The clash ensued at about 2:00 pm when police obstructed a demonstration by Hijbut Tahrir members demanding fair investigation into the BDR carnage and release of the Hijbut Tahrir leaders.
Police arrested 10 activists of Hijbut Tahrir from the spot. The arrested are: Sheikh Farid Babu, Sajjad Hossain, Isnan Mahmud, Moinul Iqbal, Ahmad Mizan, Moniruzzaman, Sohel, Delwar Hossain, Iman Arif and Minhaz.
Witnesses said the Hijbut Tahrir tried to hold a protest rally blocking the road. They held a banner that read involvement of people inside the government and a neighbouring country in the Pilkhana incident.
As riot police charged batons to clear the road Hijbut Tahrir activists threw brickbats towards the police. More than 30 people, including eight policemen, were injured during the clash that lasted for half an hour.
