KABUL, Aug 22 (AFP): International military aircraft killed 30 insurgents in strikes against militants in western Afghanistan early today, the US military said, amid claims that civilians were among the dead.
The air strikes were in the western province of Herat around 2:00 am, First Lieutenant Nathan Perry told AFP from the main US military base at Bagram north of Kabul.
About 3,000 bullet rounds and bomb-making equipment were also found, Perry said. People from the area called Afghan reporters to claim that dozens of civilians were killed in the strikes in the volatile Shindand district. However Afghan police and security forces could not confirm the claims.
