300-350 Upazila councils

Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Sakhawat Hossain Sunday said elections to 300 - 350 Upazila parishads would be complete within October and election to the remaining Upazilas be held after the general elections, reports UNB.
Talking to journalists at his office, he said schedule for upazila parishad elections would be announced in mid-August while the schedule for general elections will be announced end of October or first week of November.
The three-member Commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda had a meeting with Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Saturday and they apprised the CA of the preparations for the local body and general elections.
Sakhawat urged political parties not to get involved in the elections to nine municipalities and four city corporations scheduled for August 4.
He said candidates must abide by the election code of conduct. Otherwise, candidature will be cancelled as maximum punishment.
