A large quantity of imported items were stolen from a container in one of the yards at Chittagong Port. Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) said 300 bales of denim were stolen from a container in JR Yard on Monday night. A case was filed with the Port Police Station on Tuesday. CPA has formed a two-member probe committee with an assistant terminal manager in charge. The imported cloth belonged to Owners Design Limited, owned by former BGMEA president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin. Owners Design MD Md Masudur Rahman said 505 bales of denim arrived in that container from Shanghai, China. The contents were examined in the presence of customs officials on Monday afternoon. "The theft was discovered when we were unloading the cloth," he said. "The seal on the container was broken and 300 bales of cloth were missing," he added, according to bdnews24.com.
