30,000 UK visas for Bangladeshis issued in 2006

CHITTAGONG, Aug 16: The British High Commission (HC) in Bangladesh last year issued 30,000 visas out of the total 45,000 Bangladeshi applicants. "Those got the UK visas were 8,000 students, 5,000 settlers and the rest businessmen and visitors," said Jon Verney, head of the Immigration Service at British HC in Dhaka, while addressing a press briefing here this morning. The press briefing took place on the eve of a major seminar on UK visas to explain how an applicant can obtain UK visa in a simplified process with genuine documents. —BSS
