32 brick kilns active in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, May 22: A total of 32 brickfields are making bricks in Nilphamari district, out of which 22 brickfields are in Syedpur upazila, four in Sadar, three in Jaldhaka, two in Domar and one in Kishorgong upazila. While contacted an official of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office said all the brickfields are using coal for burning bricks as according to Brick Burning Control Ordinance 2004, the owners are prohibited from using all kind of firewood. All the brickfields in Nilphamari district would collectively produce nearly 45 million bricks at an estimated price of Tk. 250 million. D.C office sources said the industry is growing rapidly in the district and all the brick kilns are operating with proper license from the government and they are also complying with environment laws. However there is no energy efficient kiln in the district and it is observed that improving kiln efficiency in the brick making industry project of UNDP is still unknown to the brickfield owners of Nilphamari.
