32 students hospitalised after drinking tubewell water

TANGAIL, June 23 (bdnews24.com): At least 32 students have reportedly been hospitalised after drinking water from a tubewell at a school in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail district, triggering panic among other pupils.
Their identities could not be confirmed immediately, Nagarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahurul Islam said, adding that the incident was reported around 10:30am on Tuesday.
The 32 students of Mahmudnagar High School are currently receiving treatment at Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex and Tangail Medical College Hospital.
Mostafizur Rahman, acting headmaster of the school, said that as the students were entering their respective classrooms after 10:15am, many of them suddenly started vomiting.
The affected students were later sent to the upazila health facility one by one. Of them, two were referred to Tangail Medical College Hospital for better treatment.School authorities said that most of the affected students are female.
Mostafizur said that a "white paste-like substance wrapped in a thin plastic bag" was found near the tubewell.
