GAZA, July 22 (BBC/AFP): Some 33 people, including 12 children, have died from malnutrition in the past 48 hours, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.
It comes as the UN chief says Gaza's "last lifelines" are collapsing, with humanitarian conditions breaking down at an "accelerating" pace during Israel's offensive.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy tells the BBC he's "sickened" by the "grotesque" scenes in Gaza. On Monday, he joined 27 other nations in condemning the "horrifying" killing of hundreds of Gazans trying to get food from Israel's aid operations.
Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli strikes killed 20 people in the Palestinian territory on Tuesday, as the military expanded ground operations to the central city of Deir el-Balah.
Agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that Israeli strikes on the Al-Shati camp west of Gaza City killed at least 20 people and wounded more than 50.
Most of Gaza's population has been displaced at least once during 21 months of conflict and the Al-Shati camp, on the Mediterranean coast, hosts thousands of people displaced from the north in tents and makeshift shelters.
Raed Bakr, 30, lives with his three children and said he heard "a massive explosion" at about 1:40 am on Tuesday (2240 GMT Monday), which blew their tent away.
France FM urges foreign
press access to Gaza
French Foreign Minister (FM) Jean-Noel Barrot on Tuesday urged Israel to allow foreign press into the besieged Palestinian territory of Gaza, as warnings of famine mount after 21 months of war.
"I ask that the free and independent press be allowed to access Gaza to show what is happening there and to bear witness," he told France Inter radio in an interview from eastern Ukraine.
