33.5 kg gold recovered

More than 33.5 kilograms (KG) of gold were recovered in Cox's Bazar and Chittagong Monday, report agencies.
In Cox's Bazar, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive on early Monday recovered more than 27 kilograms of gold ornaments from a house in Chakaria upazila and arrested three people in this connection.
The arrestees were identified as Nandaram Dhar (55), and his two sons Palash Dhar (25), and Sumon Dhar (22).
Lieutenant Col Khandakar Saiful Islam, commanding officer of 17th BGB Battalion said, being tipped-off that a huge amount of gold ornaments was kept hidden at the house of local money lender Nandaram Dhar at Chiringa Hindupara village, a team of the border force conducted a drive and recovered 27.67 kilograms of gold jewellery contained in 14 packets from there and arrested Nandaram along with his two sons around 4:00am.
Lieutenant Colonel Khandakar Saiful Islam said at first it was assumed that the gold ornaments would be over 50 kilograms but later it was confirmed to be over 27 kilograms after weighing.
Meanwhile, customs officials arrested a man along with 53 gold bars weighing 6.12 kilogram valued Tk 26.5 million at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Monday morning.
The arrested was identified as Anis Chowdhury, hailing from Boalkhali upazila of the district.
Mashiur Rahman Mandal, assistant commissioner (Customs) of the airport, said a flight of 'BG 048' of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dubai landed at the airport around 7:45am.
The custom officials found the 53 gold bars searching the luggage of Anis who came to the airport by the flight.
