FE Report | Monday, 20 April 2015
Some 337 Bangladeshi nationals, including 14 women and 13 children who were stranded in war-ravaged Yemen, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday.
Biman's special flights BG-1012 and BG-1098 carrying them from the Indian state of Kerala reached the airport early Sunday.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs ShahriarAlam received them at the airport. Additional Foreign Secretary Mizanur Rahman, Director General (Consular & Welfare) and Director General (External Publicity) were also present.
The ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA) in a statement said the 337 Bangladeshi nationals were evacuated from the cities of Saana, Hodeida and Aden by Indian Naval Ships (INS) and brought to Kochi seaport in Kerala by two Indian passenger ships for their eventual repatriation to Bangladesh.
"They have arrived here safe and sound and in good health," the statement added.
Another group of 136 Bangladeshi nationals, including five women and five children, is now awaiting their final repatriation to Bangladesh. They reached Djibouti on April 16 after Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sumitra evacuated them from Hodeida on April 15.
