34kg gold bars seized on Biman flight

Gold bars weighing over 34 kilogram were seized from a flight of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet on Friday.
The flight of the national flag carrier returned home from Dubai in the morning.
The gold bars and balls remained scattered and stashed under the seats of passengers of the aircraft and in various places in toilets.
The market value of the precious metal was estimated at Tk 265 million, according to a press release issued by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.
A total of 280 bars weighing 32.65 kg and six egg-shaped balls weighing one and a half kg were seized.
The customs authorities and customs intelligence department at the airport seized the gold. The shipment was seized when a Biman flight landed at the airport at 8:53 am.
Four people were arrested in this connection. They were identified as Mohammad Habibur Rahman (38), Sanu Mia (36), Aktaruzzaman (40) and Misfa Mia (47).
