35 rescued while being trafficked to India: 5 Indians held

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel rescued 35 Bangladeshi nationals while being trafficked to India through Putkhali frontier at Benapole under Sarsa Upazila in Jessore on Wednesday night. They also arrested five Indian nationals on the same border. The rescued Bangladeshis include 14 women and three children. They hail from different areas of Narail, Bagerhat, Gopalganj and Khulna districts. Lieutenant Colonel Mostafizur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-23, said being tipped off, a BGB team conducted a drive at Charer Math of Putkhali border and rescued the 35 Bangladeshis while they were being trafficked to India. However, the human traffickers managed to escape before the BGB team arrived. At the same time, the border guards arrested five Indians from the same border while they were trying to intrude into Bangladesh. They hail from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal state in India, according to UNB.
