35.3m metric tonnes of Aman produced in Netrakona

NETRAKONA Jan 28 (BSS): Farmers harvested a bumper Crop of transplanted Aman (T-Aman) here in the last Aman season following favorable climate condition and joint efforts of farmers and the concerned officials.
District Agriculture Extension Department (DAED) office sources said, over 35.3million metric tonnes of Aman were produced on 1, 39,180 hectares of lands in ten upazilas of the district during the last Aman season.
According to the DAED office sources , a target was set up by the government to cultivate the T-Aman on 1,33,559 hectares of land with a plan for producing 3,13 lakhs metric tons of T-Aman during the current season.
But, the farmers have successfully brought 1,39,180 hectares of land under the T-Aman paddy cultivation and produced 3,53,730 metric tons of Aman in the district by exceeding both the cultivation and production targets as the weather condition was favorable. The government also ensured supply of improved quality seeds, seedlings, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to the door-steps of the farmers at fair prices, the sources said.
Besides, the government helped the farmers to run the T-Aman cultivation program properly by distributing agricultural loan among them from all the state-run banks including Sonali, Agrani and Krishi Banks, the sources added.
Deputy director of the DAED Netrakona Kazi Nurul Islam said that the field-workers and crops specialists of the DAED rendered field-level service in the rural areas of the district to encourage the farmers to take modern methods of T-Aman cultivation including taking integrated pest management (IPM) methods to save their T-Aman crops from the pest attacks and other diseases.
