Friday, 26 September 2014

Thirty-six students have been detained for allegedly adopting unfair means while appearing for the Dhaka University's 'Gha Unit' admission tests for the 2014-15 session.
Twenty-four of them were admission seekers while, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said, 12 others were members of a racket that assisted university admission seekers to cheat in entry tests, according to a news agency.
One of the detainees is a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Dhaka University unit. BCL is the student wing of ruling Awami League.
As many as 105,516 aspirants sat for the one-hour-long test Friday, contending for 1,416 seats.
Meanwhile, RAB detained 12 members of a cheating racket and seven admission seekers from several areas in Dhaka Thursday night.
"The members of the racket supplied answers to the candidates through mobile phones and are involved with the question paper leak," the elite force's Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said.
"Seven admission seekers detained with them have admitted to getting help from the racket," he said, adding that the racket had earned a huge sum of money through cheating.
RAB has so far identified 17 of the 19 detained. One of them, Mozammel Hoque Lenin is the BCL DU unit's International Affairs Secretary.
About 25 candidates were detained on similar charges during new session’s admission tests to the university's 'Ka', 'Kha', and 'Ga' units. The admissions tests ended with the 'Gha Unit' exam on Friday.
