36 opposition leaders, workers sent to jail

A court in Jessore has sent to jail 36 opposition leaders and activists in a violence case filed in November last year. Judge of the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court, Benapole, Maruf Ahmed passed the order on Sunday afternoon when the BNP men surrendered before the court, seeking bail in the case. The court sources said some BNP leaders and activists torched several shops and vehicles after vandalising those and blasting bombs at Churamankathi Bazar in Jessore Sadar upazila on November 27, 2013. Later, two people – Faruque Hossain and Alam – of the area filed the case against 45 people with Kotwali Police Station in Jessore in connection with the incident, according to UNB.
