37 PCBs to disburse Tk 10.66b agricultural credit this fiscal

A total of 37 private commercial banks (PCBs) including seven foreign ones will disburse agricultural credit to the tune of Tk 10.66 billion (1,066 crore) for the first time in the current fiscal, official sources said.
The Ministry of Finance (MoF) in a meeting last month fixed the disbursement targets---Tk 9.09 billion for 29 local private commercial banks and Tk 1.56 billion for the overseas banks operating in the country.
Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited will disburse the highest Tk 2.74 billion to the local private banks and Citibank NA will disburse the highest Tk 700 million to the foreign banks, according to the sources.
With inclusion of the private banks in agricultural credit disbursement, the government has targeted to distribute a total of Tk 80.55 billion in the current fiscal, up by 22.40 per cent compared to the last fiscal's target.
The nationalised commercial banks (NCBs) and specialised banks have been assigned to disburse Tk 69.89 billion in the current fiscal. The amount is 6.2 per cent higher than the target of the last fiscal.
The agricultural credit disbursement target was Tk 63.51 billion in 2006-07. Four NCBs and four specialised banks could disburse Tk 52.92 billion, nearly 10 per cent less than the target.
