3kg gold seized at Shahjalal: 1 held

Customs Intelligence officials seized 30 gold bars weighing 3 kilograms (kg) at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport at Kurmitola in the city on Monday night. They also arrested a man – Liton Miah, 35, son of Shawkat Ali, of Tangail district – in this connection. Mainul Khan, director general of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, said Liton Miah came from Singapore by a Tiger Airlines flight around 7:30pm. On suspicion, the Customs men challenged him while passing through the Green Channel around 8:30pm. Later they detained Liton and recovered the gold bars, worth Tk 15 million from him. Liton, who travelled twice in last three months, confessed that he brought the gold bars at the airport for Tk 20,000, according to UNB.
