3rd session starts at 5pm: Bill to impeach judges may go thru\\\'

The 3rd session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) begins today (Monday). A number of bills are likely to be placed during this session, including the widely discussed 16th amendment bill aiming to restore parliament’s authority to impeach Supreme Court judges. Today’s sitting of the session starts at 5:00pm. President Abdul Hamid convened the 3rd session of the parliament on August 11. Prior to the session, the Business Advisory Committee will sit in a meeting around 4:00pm with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Begum Raushon Ershad will also attend the meeting which will decide the length of the 3rd session. On July 3, the budget session of the 10th Parliament was prorogued after 24 sittings that passed 37 bills, including two private members’ bills. According to the Constitution, the gap between parliamentary sessions cannot exceed 16 days. The House sat for 59 days since January, according to a news agency.
