Sunday, 3 August 2014

Four people perished and 20 others were hurt when a flash flood swept through a festival in Italy on Saturday night. After a 10-minute burst of heavy rain before midnight, the Lierza river overflowed its banks, sweeping away residents, stands, tents and cars during the festival in Refrontolo, north of Venice, local media reported Sunday. The bodies of four men were found overnight, some of them one kilometre (less than a mile) from the area of the festivities. On Sunday, police, firefighters and other rescue workers were trying to assess the damage, according to AFP.
