CHITTAGONG, Jan 17: Dense fog compelled civil aviation authorities to suspend schedule of four domestic flights including three of the national flag carrier Bangladesh Biman.
Civil aviation authority in Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport said, BG 633 and BG 045 of Bangladesh Biman scheduled to reach Chittagong with passengers from Dhaka in the morning could not arrive on schedule due to dense fog.
BG 042 scheduled to leave Chittagong for Cox's Bazar at 10.05 am could not fly. The flight was stranded in the airport until 5.00 pm. Another flight of the GMG Airlines scheduled to land at Chittagong airport at 11.30 was also cancelled as the sky was overcast.
Movement of ships in the Chittagong port remained suspended until noon as no vessel could either leave or call on the port since 3.00 am last night.
However one container vessel and three vessels with general cargo entered Chittagong port at around 12.30 pm, officials said. Those entered the port are MV Gooriang, MV Sea Challenger, MV Banglar Kakoli and container vessel MV Begula Fairy.
Meanwhile, a boat ferrying 27 passengers from Anwara across the Karnafuli River capsized due to dense fog at the Ghat no. 14 near Patenga sea beach at 6.30 am. One passenger is missing while 26 others managed to get on the shore safely.
