Detective Branch (DB) of police in an overnight drive arrested four people in possession of 149 gold bars from different parts of Dhaka city on Monday night and early Tuesday. Acting on secret information, the detectives conducted the drives simultaneously in different areas of the city and arrested the four people, including three policemen. The other arrested person is a police source. DB police sources said the quartet was held for their alleged involvement in a case of gold recovery at Rampura in the city. Two police officials - the officer-in-charge (OC) and OC (investigation) -- of Rampura Police Station were closed on March 19, three days after they allegedly hid information regarding recovery of the illegal gold bars. During the drives last night, the detectives also recovered 149 gold bars from their possession, said a team of DB high officials without giving further details, according to UNB.
