4 Indians held with 5.7kg gold at Petrapole

BENAPOLE: Customs officials at India’s Petrapole check post arrested four Indian nationals along with 57 gold bars weighing 5.700 kg while they were returning home from Bangladesh Friday noon.
Being tipped off that four Indian citizens were returning to India with the gold, customs officials searched their luggage at the Petrapole check post and recovered the gold, said Jahangir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration Police. Later, the Indian customs officials arrested them, according to a news agency.
Sources at Benapole check post said although there is a scanner at the check post, it was not used. If used, the four Indian nationals could be arrested at Benapole.
