4 Jamaat men held in Sherpur

Police arrested four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different places of Sribordi upazila town of Sherpur district on Tuesday night. They were held for their involvement in vandalism and subversive activities, police claimed. The arrested are Imran Hossain, 22, Abdul Jalil, 32, Abul Hossain, 26, and Kasem Ali, 31, all residents of the upazila headquarters. Belayet Hossain Tarafder, officer-in-charge of Sribordi Police Sation, said a team of police conducted a drive in different areas of the upazila at night and arrested the four Jamaat men. They were arrested for carrying out vandalism and arson attacks during the then BNP-led 18-party-enforced nationwide hartals and blockades before January 5 elections, according to a news agency.
