4 killed, 17 injured by trains in Karwanbazar

At least four people, including a woman, were killed and 17 others injured as a crowd caught up between two moving trains in Karwanbazar in the city on Thursday morning. Witnesses said about 100 people caught up between the inter-city ‘Jamuna Express’ train from Jamalpur and Chittagong-bound inter-city ‘Karnafuli Express’ train from Kamalapur at Fish Market near FDC Rail Gate in Karwanbazar under Tejgaon Police Station. The ‘Jamuna Express’ train sped past the area running over the crowd instantly killing a man, injuring 19 other people. The injured were rushed to Dhaka medical College Hospital (DMCH). A woman died there after being treated for an hour while a man succumbed to his injuries around 10.45am. Hospital sources said, the female, wearing a pink burka, was in her early 20s while the man who also died at the DMCH was around 45. He was wearing a green t-shirt. The three seriosuly injured have been identified as Monowara Begum, 45, and fruit traders Md Rakib, 20 and his uncle Fazlu Khan, 40. The others who are being treated are yet to be identified, according to bdnews24.com.
