4 killed, 3 injured in Gazipur crash

At least four people were killed and three others injured in a fatal road accident in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur district on Thursday night. Three of the deceased were identified as Parven Akter, 35, wife of Rafiqul Islam, Faruque Mia, 25, an auto-rickshaw driver and son of Islam Uddin and Jassim Uddin, 30, son of Helal Uddin, all of them hailed from Kapasia upazila. Identity of the other deceased, a mentally challenged man, could not be known immediately. Witnesses said a Leguna (human hauler) first hit the mentally challenged man while he was crossing a road in Jamirar Char area around 9:00pm. The out of control vehicle then crashed into the oncoming auto-rickshaw, leaving six people critically injured, they added. The Leguna driver and mentally retarded person were declared dead when they were taken to Kapasia Upazila Health Complex. Parvin and Jasim, who were rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, succumbed to their injuries around 1:00am on Friday, according to private TV channels.
