4 killed in Netrakona, Sirajganj incidents

NETRAKONA, Dec 12 (UNB): Two people were killed in separate incidents at Durgapur and Modon Upazilas of the district Friday.
In Drugapur, Abdul Aziz of Badua village asked his wife to bring some money and one maund of paddy from her father's house in the nearby area.
But on her refusal Aziz locked into an altercation with her in the morning. Later, in the evening he picked up a quarrel with her over the issue and started beating her indiscriminately.
Hearing the news when the victim's father Abul Khair came to the house to rescue her Aziz attacked and beat him mercilessly leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Modon upazila, Abul Kashem and Tota Miah of Bagdhair village locked into altercation over a trifling matter in the morning.
At one stage, Kashem hit Tota with a piece of brick, leaving him critically injured. Later, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Two separate cases were filed with the police.
Another report from bdnews24.com adds : At least two people have been killed in a collision among two trucks and a covered van on Dhaka-Bogra highway in Sirajganj.
Police said the accident occurred at about 11pm Saturday at the Mafiz intersection on the west side of the Bangabandhu Bridge.
Ziaur Rahman, sub-inspector of the Bangabandhu Bridge (west side) police, told the news agency that a covered van carrying foodstuff, collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
The accident also involved another smaller truck that hit the covered van from the back. The two victims-Ramzan Ali (50), of Khaskaulia village of Chouhali area, and Rafiqul Islam (32), of Bogra's Nandigram-were riding the small truck.
Three critically injured persons were admitted to the Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
Abdul Rahim and Ahmad Ali, passengers of the small truck told the news agency that they had been coming from Rajshahi carring paddy which they got as their wages for reaping the harvest for a landlord.
Eyewitness Abul Hasan said that traffic movement on the highway remained suspended as the accident-hit vehicles blocked the road.
Police official Zia, however, said that the traffic movement was restored at about 2am Sunday after the wrecked vehicles were removed from from the highway
