4 maritime ports asked to hoist signal No 1

The depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved slightly north-northeastwards over the same area on Thursday. It was centered at 09:00am today (Thursday) about 645 kilometre South Southwest of Chittagong Port, 555-km South Southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 665-km South of Mongla port and 615-km South of Payra Port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northeasterly direction, a Met office bulletin has said. Maximum sustained wind speed within 44-km of the depression centre is about 40kph rising to 50kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain moderate. Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant cautionary Signal No 1. All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until further notice, the bulletin said.
