4 more land ports will be handed over to pvt sector

The government will hand over four land ports to the private sector for development and facilitating trade with India.
Akhaura, Tamabil, Bhomra and Burimari land ports handover process will be completed by June next year, Bangladesh Land Port Authority chairman KAM Haroon told the FE on Sunday.
The government earlier handed over Teknaf, Sonamasjid, Hilli, BibirBazar, Banglabandha and Birol land ports to the private sector for 25 years under build, own and transfer (BOT) system.
"After the handover, the qualified private firms will build the port at their own cost to facilitate export and import activities between the two countries," he said.
The government will soon finalise the tender terms and conditions for pre-qualification and after analyzing cost-benefit and other aspects, they will come up with a revenue sharing proposals, he added.
"The firms which will offer maximum revenue will be awarded the contracts and the government is expected to earn a substantial amounts from them as the trading is likely to increase in the coming months," Mr Haroon said.
A senior official of the shipping ministry said the importance of the land port will increase manifold after the government signs connectivity agreement with India.
Akhaura, Tamabil, Bibirbazar and Belunia has border with Seven Sisters of India and they will be developed as important hubs for export and import activities, he said.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni recently said Bangladesh has agreed to facilitate connectivity as a tool aimed at regional development as the country is talking about joining the Asian Highway.
