4-party alliance for restoration of holidays on May 30, Nov 7

BNP-led 4-party alliance at a meeting Sunday viewed that the government wants to make the country a vassal state by installing elements subservient to an alien power through elections according to its blueprint, reports UNB.
"We shall not allow it to happen," asserted BNP secretary general Khondoker Delwar Hossain while talking to newsmen after the meeting.
Delwar did not identify the alien power, but the 4-party alliance had often pointed at India for pursuing expansionist design.
He termed the government 'unconstitutional', and said it planned to create a group through local bodies' elections that would allow them to cling to power. "We cannot be a part to legalise the illegal and unconstitutional government by participating in the stage-managed elections."
Asked about lending support to the alliance candidates in the four city corporation and nine municipality elections, he expressed the hope that the voters would freely exercise their right.
Replying to a question, Delwar said the alliance was willing for dialogue with the government anytime. But the objective of the dialogue must be one - holding of a free and fair parliamentary election with Khaleda Zia's participation.
The meeting held at Delwar's residence in a resolution demanded restoration of general holidays on May 30, the day President Ziaur Rahman was assassinated, and November 7, the Revolution and National Solidarity Day.
