40 Aila-hit families to get shelters soon

KHULNA, Aug 9: Climate Victim Rehabilitation Project for the Aila affected people is going to start in full swing at Dipbaron area under Batiaghata Upazila of the district. 40 homeless families will get their shelters within a short time according to declaration of the Prime Minister. About 40 tin sheds with 480 pillars will be constructed at the village Dipbaronpara under Gangarampur Union of Batiaghata upazila of the district. Tk. 4.67 million has been allocated for this project by the land ministry. A committee has been formed headed by Upazila Nirbahi Office Shajedur Rahman to implement the project within June 30, but could not be completed on time for various problems. The project chairman and UP Chairman Abdul Goni Biswas said that there are no irregularities in implementing the project and that the victims will soon be benefited on completion of the project. 8 airguns seized Another message adds: Khanjahan Ali thana police arrested two arms traders along with 8 India made airguns in front of the Pather Bazar checkpost of the city on Monday evening. Police said that a team of police led by Habilder Hakim raided a microbus and recovered 8 airguns from the microbus and arrested two arms traders Jahurul Islam-25 and Korban-24. Police also seized the microbus. A case was filed under arms act. Drug peddler killed Our correspondent adds: A drug peddler was killed after being thrown into water with his hands and legs tied up at Pachani area of Bahirdia under Rupsha Upazila of the district on Monday. The deceased was identified as Masud Kazi (42) son of late Siddique Kazi of village Bahirdia under Rupsha Upazila of the district. Ershadul Kabir Chowdhury, Officer in charge of Rupsha thana, said being informated at 9 am on Monday police recovered a body from water in a ditch 250 yards away from the victim's house. Police suspect that the killing might have happened for previous enmity. Police arrested his stepsisters Lubna-30 and Rimu-22. Masud was a drug peddlers of the locality and about six cases were filed against him at different times.
